    Very good Explanation.

  2. cvt's are awsome

  3. Screw all this fragile, planned obsolescence CVT and dual clutch shit, I think it's time to get a Tesla. Tired of shit breaking every 50,000 miles just so it can get 1 extra EPA mpg. Just give me a straight drive, high powered electric drive motor, a good lithium ion battery, and a tiny diesel engine to keep the batteries charged. Just like a freight train.

The steel belt is a vast improvement on the rubber/reinforced fabric belt of yesteryear. How the concepts in engineering (sometimes incorporating electronics) improve is amazing and inspiring.

Nice video, explains the internals well, and possibly settles an argument… what should a CVT car "sound" like? Half the people say whining is normal, half say it isn't. In your video at 2:46 when it starts in motion, thats the kind of noise I hear when I step on the throttle at low speed in my Nissan. Even Nissan's own CVT brochure says "a high tech single continuous tone that changes in pitch with the engine speed". "High tech???" And official reviews of recent models say "not as whiny as the previous model". So – what is normal to hear, a faint siren style whine I guess?

  12. I used to have a go kart that had a cvt.

Hi, can you help me please with the K410 CVT Transmission, Toyota Yaris 2005 1KR-FE, I not get it the manual… but I hope you know about this transmission… I speak just spanish but I hope you understand me… mymundo1@gmail.com

  17. DO all CVT's have a torque converter or clutch cone?

  18. The CVTs are junk.Ford,GM and Nissan has had nothing but problems with them. The Ford Freestyle is one of them,Ford is behind on remans and parts for them.Nissan ,the whole transmission gets replaced when a part fails and can't get parts for it.GM put it in the Saturn Vue with the 4 cylinder and problems with it

  19. Excellent demonstration but not a fan of cvt transmissions in cars other than hybrids
As a ase certified technician and years of automotive experience I find some cases are lucky but I've had a lot of customers between 30-60k miles have them go bad and we end up replacing them. Also a lot of them can't be serviced by diy customers. The manufacturers say to wait on changing the fluid but it tends to have a burnt smell and consistency that isn't clean. Transmissions tend to stay very clean and reliable as long as the fluid is changed often.
Don't get me wrong it's not a bad idea to have in cars just that people have to remember that they're not going to be reliable as a standard auto Trans but they provide better highway mpg it's a trade off to consider thats probably why almost all new cars have cvt transmissions and high performance cars/trucks have standard autos
